The Overdrive project, a homebrew storefront offering over 1,600 free PS4 and PS5 games, went viral after a demonstration video by Edigax on X received over 7.9 million views. The storefront was originally released on GitHub on October 9 with relatively quiet reception. Attention surged only after Edigax posted the installation tutorial on October 12. Commenters noted that Sony’s policy of producing no physical game copies made this digital library a fitting alternative, with one user stating, "Only digital, as Sony wanted."

Shortly after the video went viral, reports indicate Sony sent the developer a cease-and-desist letter and shut down the site. While there are no concrete sources confirming this specific action, the project was restored just one day later. Two new GitHub repositories appeared to revive the service: one is a fork of the original code, and the other is a clone under a different account.

The jailbreak community aims to preserve this library as both a resource and a protest against Sony’s business practices. Since the release of the Relapse jailbreak on September 29, the community has developed numerous homebrew apps, including emulators and streaming services that allow Xbox Cloud Gaming to run natively on the PS5. The sheer scale of the free game collection has reportedly caught Sony’s attention, leading to repeated takedowns followed by new versions emerging in their place.
