Ting-Wei "Willy" Sun, a third-party broker charged alongside Super Micro co-founder Yih-Shyan "Wally" Liaw and sales manager Ruei-Tsang "Steven" Chang, has pleaded guilty to conspiring to unlawfully divert Nvidia AI chips to China. According to Bloomberg, Sun’s plea is part of an agreement with prosecutors, though details regarding any cooperation arrangement remain undisclosed. He is expected to be sentenced on Sept. 8, 2027. The case was revealed earlier this year after investigators discovered the diversion of Super Micro servers containing Nvidia chips to China.

The three individuals reportedly sent servers to a Southeast Asian company that faked paperwork and created dummy servers for inspectors. Workers used hair dryers to remove serial numbers from real servers to transfer them into dummy shells, while the real hardware made its way to China. Further investigation revealed the use of a Thailand-based corporation to receive the servers before they were delivered to Alibaba, which denied receiving banned Nvidia hardware. Super Micro has denied knowledge of the operation despite netting $2.5 billion in sales since 2024.

Super Micro shareholders have sued the company, accusing it of concealing its dependence on illicit sales to China. Liaw pleaded not guilty and was released on a $5 million bond, set for trial on Nov. 2. Chang remains a fugitive. Taiwanese authorities are building their own case, raiding Super Micro offices and six individuals’ homes. The company denied the raids, claiming cooperation with police, and has fired several employees after an independent investigation. Taiwan subsequently indicted nine more people involved in smuggling Nvidia B300 GPUs.
