The WD Black SN770M 2TB SSD has dropped to $259.99, which is only 8% above its original launch price of $219.99. This pricing makes it a strong option for gamers facing storage shortages on devices like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally. While Micron recently announced a 4TB version, that model is limited to OEM computers, so consumers can currently only purchase the 2TB capacity.

This drive features PCIe 4.0 technology with sequential read speeds up to 5,150 MB/s and write speeds up to 4,850 MB/s. Although these high speeds are excellent for modern handhelds, they represent overkill for the Steam Deck, which uses a slower PCIe 3.0 interface. Despite newer SSD models like the Optimus GX 7100M being available, this drive remains a balanced choice that offers good performance without excessive cost.

Prices for this SSD surged to between $349.99 and $399.99 during the recent storage shortage, making Best Buy’s comparison value of $531.99 seem exaggerated. At $0.13 per GB, the WD Black SN770M is considered one of the best deals available for high-performance M.2 2230 SSDs. Zhiye Liu, a news editor and SSD tester at Tom’s Hardware, notes that it strikes a good balance between price and performance for users needing storage upgrades now.
