Can that be fixed?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-bottom:1em; color:#666; font-size:0.9em;\">\n<strong><br \/>\n                    Cyrus Farivar<br \/>\n                <\/strong><br \/>\n &bull;<br \/>\nAugust 7, 2026\n<\/div>\n<hr\/>\n<p>This year alone, there have been numerous known instances\u2014often via lawsuits\u2014of AI chatbots (most often, OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT) that have gone horrifically wrong.<\/p>\n<p>A January lawsuit described the story of a man who <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/tech-policy\/2026\/01\/chatgpt-wrote-goodnight-moon-suicide-lullaby-for-man-who-later-killed-himself\/\">took<\/a> his own life after being allegedly \u201ccoached\u201d into suicide. A college student in Georgia <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/tech-policy\/2026\/02\/before-psychosis-chatgpt-told-man-he-was-an-oracle-new-lawsuit-alleges\/\">sued<\/a> OpenAI, claiming that ChatGPT \u201cpushed him into psychosis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In June, a Canadian family also sued OpenAI and <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/tech-policy\/2026\/06\/lawsuit-chatgpt-validated-suicidal-womans-distrust-of-crisis-lines\/\">argued<\/a> that ChatGPT agreed with the young woman\u2019s dismissiveness when it first gave her the option to seek professional mental health advice.
